Michelle Clark-Heard earns 150th career win over FAU

Another one bites that dust for the Lady Tops as the girls in red blowout yet another opponent. Michelle Clark-Heard and company have had an outstanding season so far, but today’s win was a little more special for the very-succesfull head coach, as MCH picked up her 150th career win as a head coach in the 80-43 blowout victory over the Florida Atlantic Owls.

In the large deficit loss for the Owls, FAU was held to a terrible 29% from the floor and just 24% from behind the arc. Despite the poor field goal shooting, the Lady Owls did find success as the free throw line, as they completed 88% of the attempts. FAU only had one lone double figure scorer with 14, and the next closest player had only six.

The Lady Tops flat out dominated FAU today, set aside the score. WKU forced the Owls to give up 21 possessions (and capitalizing 28 points off of those overturns), while also winning the rebounding battle 47-31 with 13 of the 47 boards coming from the offensive end (and earning 15 second chance points). One last stat to throw out, the Lady Tops shot a not too shabby 49% from the floor, and earning 48 points down low in the paint.

The notable players for WKU include Alexis Govan as she hauled in 17 points and eight rebounds, while also tacking on two assists. She was followed by Ileana Johnson with 13 points and two boards, with 11 of those points coming in the first half. Last but not least, Kendall Noble filled up the stats sheet as always, bringing home 12 points, six boards and three assists to complete her day. Team leader Chastity Gooch had a rather quiet day as the senior only had eight points and two rebounds.

There’s only so much you can say when a blowout occurs, one team completely dominates the other and that is the sum of it. The Lady Tops continue to find success despite falling outside of the AP Top 25 this week (which to myself is absolutely absurd, didn’t realize winning games meant falling in the ranks, but I digress).

Michelle Clark-Heard and company roll on after this huge victory, earning an unblemished record in Conference-USA play so far at 4-0, with an average margin of victory of 20.5 points. The Lady Tops overall record stands at 15-2 with their only losses coming to a current 18-1 Mississippi State squad ranked #15 in the latest poll, and a 16-1 Louisville Cardinal team that is ranked #4. Despite the Lady Tops not being ranked, WKU fans should be in praise for how successful this team has been, and owe this team a packed Diddle Arena every showcasing. Our girls in red take the floor again on Saturday in Bowling Green against FIU, and I will be seeing all of you there.
