Hilltoppers return to the court as they host Brescia

It feels like its been forever since the Hilltoppers last took the court for a basketball game. It’d feel a lot longer than that if people weren’t still talking about and freaking out over the incident involving Montrezl Harrell, Avery Patterson, DJ Clayton and the rest of the teams at the end of the first half. (Mark my words – this will be the final time that incident is talked about on this website.)

Hopefully, after tonight, that will be just a distant memory and we are talking about everything the Tops’ did right tonight, as they welcome in Brescia to Diddle Arena in their second to last non-conference game of the season. Today marks the third meeting over as many seasons between the Tops and Bearcats, with WKU having taken the 2012 (74-46) and 2013 (103-65) meetings.

More from Western Kentucky Hilltoppers

Tonight and Monday will be about all about one thing. Aside from getting a win (which, please don’t let it be difficult, as both Brescia and Alice Lloyd are NAIA), it’ll be all about not only continuing the dominance of

T.J. Price

but keeping him healthy as well. Coming into tonight, T.J. is averaging 17.8 points per game, which is 4.5 points higher than his career average, and is good enough for the best average in Conference USA.

While its important to make sure the regulars are getting good minutes as to not be rusty when C-USA play rolls around, I imagine we are going to see a ton of guys like Justin Johnson, Rob Marberry and maybe even a good amount of DJ Clayton, who I must say has surprised the crap out of me. If I’m Ray Harper, I even consider starting at least one of them (maybe even all three) in one of these two games.

With that being said, and while I’m sure I’m incorrect, here’s what I’d like to see touted out there as a starting five tonight.

Chris Harrison-Docks – G
DJ Clayton – G
T.J. Price – G
George Fant – F
Justin Johnson – F

Yup. That’s right. I’d love not only to see Johnson on the floor, but I’d like to see Clayton share the guard position with CHD, and heck, maybe even take over at the one. Regardless, I’m sure we’ll see plenty of rotation on and off the court of just about everyone tonight.

The ball is tipped at seven o’clock, and I don’t care if its Brescia, if you’re in Bowling Green tonight, please please please go to Diddle and support the Hilltoppers. Tickets are even discounted tonight, so it isn’t going to break the bank (not that any WKU ticket really ever does). Continue the support you showed when the Cards were in town. Let them know you wanted to see the Hilltoppers. Not the Cardinals.
