Michelle Clark-Herd and her Lady Toppers couldn’t have started the 2014/15 season off on a better foot, as WKU stormed out to a 51-29 halftime lead and never once relinquished the lead, ending up winning by a final score of 93-57.

Four of the five Lady Toppers who started the ballgame ended with double-figures in points (the odd-women out being freshman Tashia Brown, who netted seven in 25 minutes of floor time in her debut), but WKU was lead by 22 points from Bria Gaines, who shot 9-of-12 from the floor and had four rebounds to add to her night. Preseason C-USA Player of the Year Chastity Gooch scored 14 points, grabbed six boards, dished out five assists and recorded two steals, but was outdone by Kendall Noble, who lead all starters in scoring with 17 points, notching 12 rebounds and dishing four assists.

In her first action since Puerto Rico last year, Alexis Govan scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds in 24 minutes of action.

The Lady Tops kept just about everyone who took the floor for the Sugar Bears in total check, as only one player scored double figures. However, Maggie Proffitt found a way to put up 22 by herself against WKU, but outside of that, it was nothing happening for anyone from the visiting side.

The Lady Toppers continue to the second round in the winners bracket of the WNIT, and will play the winner of tomorrow’s game between Colorado and North Dakota on Monday.
