Three Hilltoppers bring home Conference USA Player of the Week honors

It was a perfect weekend between the WKU football and volleyball teams, and Conference USA took notice and named three Hilltoppers to weekly Player of the Week honors.

Following the come-from behind win, a pair of football Tops were honored, as Brandon Doughty was named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week for the third time in 2014, as he turned in his seventh 300+ yard passing performance over UTEP. Doughty went 23-of-34 through the air for 324 yards and three touchdowns, two of which were apart of the 21 unanswered points that helped the Tops complete the comeback and hold off the Miners. Doughty and the Tops put the passing game back into high gear after struggling mightily against Louisiana Tech, and will look for another big day through the air against Army.

Bringing in his second C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honor in 2014 was

Wonderful Terry

who had his second game-changing pick-six of the season, but this one took the Tops to a win. In the press conference he laid out the plan on that play perfectly – he simply sat at the sticks, jumped the route, and took it back 90 yards for a score. Don’t expect to see any game-changing plays from Terry, as Army doesn’t throw the ball often, and it might be a relatively easy day for him.

Also bringing in Defensive Player of the Week is WKU libero Georgia O’Connell. The Lady Toppers volleyball squad has continued to roll through the season, and that held true over the weekend as WKU defeated both Southern Miss and Marshall to finish road play in 2014. O’Connell had a career best weekend, as she posted career high digs in both victories, recording 23 against the Golden Eagles and reset her best with 25 yesterday against the Herd. It’s the first C-USA weekly honor (surprisingly) for O’Connell in her career and the seventh time a Lady Topper has been honored.
