Conference USA soccer tourney set; Lady Tops 7th seed

The first inaugural regular season for WKU in Conference USA has come to an end, as the Lady Tops soccer team fell to the Conference USA soccer regular season champions North Texas on Friday night. However, WKU is one of the lucky eight who will remain playing, as the C-USA soccer championships begin this Wednesday, and the Lady Tops just so happen to be playing in the tournament opening game. Take a look at the bracket for yourself.

The Lady Toppers and Rice did not meet during the regular season, so it’ll mark the first time they’ll meet as Conference USA competitors. They did, however, meet last year in Bowling Green, and played to a scoreless draw.

Over the regular season, WKU went 2-4 against the teams that qualified. The only wins came against Marshall, the Tops’ first ever C-USA conference game and victory, and of course the 4-3 OT win against the MTBRs. Of the four teams WKU lost to, they outscored the Tops by a total of 10-1. Ouch. Not good.
Unfortunately, for WKU, assuming (hoping) they beat the Owls, they’ll play the winner of UTEP and Louisiana Tech, who both defeated the Tops in regular season play.
WKU and Marshall tied in the standings with points, but the Lady Tops had more wins and less ties than the Herd did to eventually win-out of not being the eighth seed. That and, of course, the head to head tie breaker was also in WKU’s favor.
