Two Lady Toppers honored by Conference USA

It should come as a shock to no-one who has read our Towel Rack segments or seen my tweets that I thought Alyssa Cavanaugh was far and away the best choice for C-USA Player of the Week in volleyball, and it turns out, the conference agrees! Not only that, but Heather Boyan was also honored, the conference announced earlier today.

POW. Cavanaugh, winner of the Offensive Player of the Week honor, killed 45 balls…45 balls…this week, which is an average of exactly 4.5 per set. She also had only 11 hitting errors and hit 42% as the Lady Tops went 3-0 against Charlotte, Marshall and North Texas, staying perfect in conference play. In that Marshall match, Cavanaugh hit a season high 52.9%, as well as notched 15 kills, which she then followed up with 21 yesterday against North Texas. It’s the first conference honor in Cavanaugh’s young career.<p class=. Outside Hitter. Offensive Player of the Week. ALYSSA CAVANAUGH

The Lady Tops now have had four players be honored by C-USA, with Noelle Langenkamp and Jessica Lucas being honored earlier this year. The Tops will play just two games this week, including a matchup of C-USA heavy weights when the Tops take on unbeaten UTSA in San Antonio on Friday. WKU will also play at UTEP Sunday afternoon.
