Former WKU and current Liverpool Ladies goalkeeper Libby Stout can now add “European Champion” to her résumé, as the Liverpool Ladies retained the FA Women’s Super League title Sunday in dramatic fashion. Liverpool entered the day third in the standings, but won the title on goal difference after defeating Bristol Academy 3-0.

More from Western Kentucky Hilltoppers

Stout, the first professional soccer player in WKU history, signed with the Reds before the 2014 season, after stints in Germany and France. At WKU, Stout was an All-American, posting a 45-17-11 record and setting school records in wins, shutouts, and minutes played. Her 0.68 goals against average and .860 save average are also Hilltopper records. Also, Stout’s 39 career shutouts ranks second-most in NCAA history.

Before joining Liverpool, Stout began her professional career at Femin Yzeure Allier Auvergne in France, before moving to BV Cloppenburg in Germany. She has also represented the United States on the U-23 team, and will undoubtedly represent the senior team in the future.

Last month, Stout and teammate Fara Williams were nominated for the Women’s Player of the Year Award at the MBNA Northwest Football Awards. Only four players were selected as finalists for the prestigious award, to be named on November 18th.

Wave the Red Towel takes great pride in covering former Toppers who succeed at the highest professional level, and would like to congratulate Stout for her recent accomplishments as she continues to represent WKU both at home and afar.
