The 2014 Hilltoppers basketball season wasn’t even 24 hours old yet when seniors George Fant and T.J. Price were named to the 2014 preseason Conference USA All-Conference team yesterday. WKU is just one of three schools from the conference with multiple selections, joining Louisiana Tech and UTEP.

More from Western Kentucky Hilltoppers

In the final Sun Belt season, Fant averaged 13.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, which was lead all Toppers. Fant also shot 53% from the floor, which was good enough for fifth in the SBC. Price averaged 15.5 points (which lead the team) and finished the year 10th in scoring in the Fun Belt (ahh, those were the days). Price also scored at least 10 points in 25 of 30 games last year, and had seven games of 20 or more points.

The Tops duo was joined by Charlotte’s Pierria Henry, LA Tech’s Raheem Appleby, Alex Hamilton and Kenneth Smith, Old Dominion’s Aaron Bacote, UAB’s C.J. Washington, and UTEP’s Vince Hunter and Julian Washburn join the Hilltopper duo on the preseason All-Conference team.

Price and Fant have an interesting role this year on the team, because they’re so soft spoken and quiet, yet are in that senior leadership role on the floor, that we might see an underclassmen take the “leadership role, ” from the two, and frankly, I don’t think they’d mind. Price comes into the year ranked 25th all time in WKU points while Fant isn’t far behind at 30th.

In addition to the All-Conference teams, C-USA announced the top four vote-getters in the preseason coaches poll were Louisiana Tech, UTEP, Charlotte and Old Dominion. I wonder where exactly the Tops came in, because they couldn’t have been far behind.
