WKU volleyball makes school history

The WKU volleyball team has made Western Kentucky history, as they’re the first team to win a game (er, in this case, match) as a member of Conference USA.

The other side of tonight’s instant trivia question – Louisiana Tech, who suffered their second straight C-USA loss, and second conference sweep in a row – as the Lady Toppers won in straight sets 25-22, 26-24, 25-13. Alyssa Cavanaugh, who we highlighted in our preview earlier today, lead the team with 12 kills, while Rachel Engle followed closely behind with nine, which was the same as the leaders from the Lady Techsters in Rebecca Redgen and Angela Papach.

Jessica Lucas, another of the Fab Five Freshman, recorded yet another double-double, her third of the year, with 38 assists and 11 digs, being just barely outdone by Georgia O’Connell who recorded 12.

The Lady Toppers most successful set came in the third and final one, as they played much like they did in the second set on Tuesday night, however instead of a 10-0 lead, they got out to an 8-0 and would go onto lead 21-9 at one point, and win the set 25-13.

The ladies will now come home to Diddle and will face Rice on Sunday, who Coach Hudson said after Tuesday’s win, that Rice is one of about four teams that could win it all in the conference. And, yes, he threw WKU into that mix as well.
