Georgia State Panthers (4-3 overall, 2-2 this week)
The Panthers have a couple of good wins on their resume already – they took two of three to open the season against Illinois, as well as won the final game of a weekend series vs. Ole Miss this past weekend. The Panthers are averaging seven runs a game, and have scored five or more runs five times, including a 13-run performance in a 19-13 loss to Illinois and 10 runs the next day in a win over the Illini. Clearly, the offense is not the problem, and that’s reflected in the hitting numbers. The entire starting nine is hitting at least .280, four are hitting over .340 and Chris Triplett is leading the way with a .464 average, along with a team high 11 RBI. Triplett and Matt Rose each have two home runs, as well. GSU is another team with early pitching woes, as the team has racked up a staff ERA of 5.81 (although, they’re forcing opponents ERA to be 5.89). Kenny Anderson holds the lowest ERA of the starters at 2.57, while Andrew Fessler has an insane 11.05.
