Arkansas State Red Wolves (4-4 overall, 1-4 this week)
The Red Wolves also started their season well, sweeping their opening series against Miami (OH), but since have gone on a slide, dropping four of their last five, being salvaged only by a 14-8 victory to close out a four-game weekend series against Illinois State. The offense for A-State isn’t the problem – they’re hitting .300 as a team, have four players hitting over .340, with Matt Burgess leading the way (.444), and have already scored 60 runs. It’s, in fact, the pitching that is slowing the Red Wolves down, with their three weekend starters all with an ERA over 3.50, and two of them are over 5.00 (Chandler Hawkins with 5.79 and David Owen at 7.20 – both of which are from Tennessee). In total, five State pitchers are over the 5.00 ERA mark, and that wont fly in a very good league.
