Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (5-2 overall, 3-1 this week)
The good ol’ Tops are coming off a strong sweep of skipper Matt Myers’ former team, UNC Ashville, and a dominant 13-2 win on Sunday. If it weren’t for a poorl-pitched 8th inning against Belmont on Tuesday, the Tops are looking at a perfect week, and 6-1 record. WKU is hitting .236 as a team, but are fourth in the conferecnce in ERA, posting a 2.66. The Tops are second to last in the conference in strikeouts with only 27 through the team’s first seven games, always a welcome sight no matter the sport. WKU is lead offensively by Scott Wilcox, who is hitting .500…not not around or near there. On-the-dot .500, with two long balls and six men driven in. However, newcomer Ryan Church is providing offensive numbers similar to Ryan Huck a year ago, as he already has three home runs and 8 RBI. Tops are starting strong again this year, but, we all remember what happened in the home stretch last season…
