The second season for Louisville basketball begins this afternoon, as the Cardinals will square off with the North Carolina Tar Heels in the ACC quarterfinals.

The Heels only needed one test to prove themselves worthy to face the Cards, and that came in the form of an easy 81-63 victory over Boston College, in which UNC shot nearly 50% from the floor and an even 75% from the free throw line.

Marcus Paige

(17) and

Justin Jackson

(12) all scored in double figures for the Heels. The Heels also won the rebounding margin over the Eagles handily, 43-25.

The Cards, while they haven’t played since Saturday, still are riding the momentum after knocking off the #2 team in the land in Virginia. However, that was at home and, while Greensboro is a “neutral court,” it’s still North Carolina, and that sky blue is going to be everywhere, so it’ll be a ruckus crowd against the Cards.

Tournament games are funny, because sometimes they mirror the regular season meeting(s) and other times they don’t. Well, if this game is anything

remotely

similar to the regular season affairs, we are going to be in for a treat.

In terms of play from the Cardinals, yes this might be the time where the absence of Chris Jones hurts them more than it has since his dismissal, which means they’ll need to see above-averages performances from the likes of Montrezl Harrell and Terry Rozier. And I’m talking, like, 25 points and 11 boards from Harrell and 20 and eight dimes from Rozier. That type of above average.

There are a lot of people doubting the Cards, especially in their first ever ACC tournament game, but if they play like they did Saturday against the Cavaliers, or in either of the two meetings against North Carolina, then we’ll be in for quite the show.
