Bowling Green Hot Rods Set for Home Opener

The Bowling Green Hot Rods have started their 2015 baseball season. As a matter of fact, the team has already played nine games – all on the road. The Minor League Class A affiliate squad is currently 3-6 overall and set in last place in the Midwest League Eastern. The sixth-year team, like I said before, have played all of their games on the road – at South Bend, at Lake County, and at Dayton. As you probably know, they lost all three series. But hope is not over this early for the Hot Rods, who open their home season tonight in downtown Bowling Green at Bowling Green Ballpark.

Bowling Green is pretty good in home openers at BG Ballpark – 4-2 in those contests to be exact. The Hot Rods were victorious in last season’s home opener with a 5-2 win over South Bend. Tonight, the team takes on Lake County, a team that defeated the Hot Rods twice earlier this week and escaped with the series victory.

The Captains are currently 4-5 overall and are tied with the South Bend Cubs for sixth place in the Midwest League Eastern. Lake County has won one game over Wayne County (last night) after a two-game losing streak. This team is full of good hitters. Seven out of the teams thirteen batters have a batting average of .200 or higher, with the highest being .333. That .333 average is held by outfielder Taylor Murphy. Murphy has played in eight games and has two hits and two runs off of six at bats. Murphy also has three RBI’s and no errors. You’ll probably see him hit the ball tonight.

The Hot Rods have won one game over Dayton a three-game losing streak. This team can also hit the baseball. This squad’s roster has seven out of twelve hitters that hold a batting average of .200 or higher. The highest on this BG team is .292. That .292 is held by Jace Conrad. Conrad has played in six games and has seven hits and four runs off of twenty-four at bats. Conrad also has three RBI’s and no errors. You might even get to see him get a hit off of that wooden bat tonight.

Bowling Green also has some solid pitchers. One of those guys is Greg Harris. Harris has an ERA of 3.27 in two games started and played in. He has allowed nine hits, has given up six runs, has walked two batters, but has eleven strikeouts in eleven innings pitched. He has yet to complete a game, though.

The Hot Rods and Captains get things started at 6:05 p.m. CDT, with first pitch being set for that time. Hopefully Bowling Green can shake off the losing streak with a victory tonight in front of the baseball-ready fans.
