Hilltoppers fall at Marshall to slip to third place in C-USA
Ray Harper and his Hilltoppers’ basketball squad ventured into Huntington, West Virginia for a matchup with conference foe Marshall last night, as WKU hoped to start up a new winning streak with a win over the Thundering Herd.
Well, that didn’t play out, as the Tops fell for the second time in a row 87-82. The Hilltoppers are in their first losing streak of the season since losing three in a row in non-conference play.
The game was mostly back-and-forth the whole contest until the very end. That’s when Marshall went on a 11-0 run and kept it going from the three-point arc the whole game and took the W.
Despite the loss, the Tops were led by Chris Harrsion-Docks‘ 20 point, seven rebound, two assists performance. Trency Jackson was pretty hot from downtown, as he dropped 16 points. T.J. Price added 13, after being held scoreless and in foul trouble in the first half. Big man George Fant added 10 points and 7 rebounds.
Marshall had many guys step up today. Austin Loop had a game high 23 points. Justin Edmonds had 15. Their star, Ryan Taylor had 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The Tops now sit in sole possession of third place, behind Louisiana Tech and UTEP, and have a steep task ahead of them as they travel to Dixie for a Thursday night matchup with UAB.
