WKU Basketball Game Grades: George Fant is a monster
Both the Lady Topper and Hilltopper Basketball teams were in action today. The 25th ranked Lady’s played their third Conference USA game of the season on the road in Norfolk, Virginia against Old Dominion. The every-game-improving men participated in their third conference game of the season as well, but at home inside E.A. Diddle Arena versus a 25th ranked and 13-1 nice Old Dominion team.
The Lady Toppers defeated the Lady Monarchs 76-60 to win their eleventh straight game and to improve their record to 14-2 overall, 3-0 in Conference USA. It was the starters that led the way for WKU today while the bench watched too much of the men’s game from Thursday.
Alexis Govan? Well she does it all for this team! The senior leader had yet another great game for the Lady Tops, dropping 17 points off of a nice 6-of-11 shooting day, going 50% from the foul line, grabbing four rebounds, and dishing out five assists. With her and Gooch playing like they have been, this team will finish the regular season 29-2 overall and 18-0 in Conference USA. Mark my word!. G/F. Lady Toppers. ALEXIS GOVAN. A
B+. Junior sharp-shooting, flashy-passing, point guard Micah Jones had a nice game vs. ODU. Jones went 5-of-8 from the field, made all four free throws she attempted, grabbed three rebounds, dished out five assists, all accompanying their 18 points.. G. Lady Toppers. MICAH JONES
B-. Chastity Gooch had another high scoring game for Michelle Clark-Heard and her Lady Toppers, but she struggled from the field. Gooch finished the game with 20 points, which is great and was the leading scorer, but went 8-of-23 from the field – 35%. She made up for her sloppy shooting by making all four of her attempted free throws and six rebounds.. F. Lady Toppers. CHASTITY GOOCH
Want to know how the Lady Toppers bench was yesterday? Absolutely terrible! The only player to score off the bench was freshman guard Tashia Brown, which had all four of the team’s bench points. Brown didn’t play well at all, but hey, she scored! She went 2-of-6 from the field and had three rebounds. The rest of the bench only attempted five total shots – they missed them all. Ivy Brown was 0-of-2, Jaylin McClain was 0-of-2, and Ruta Savickaite was 0-of-1. That has to improve!. 4 Total Points. Lady Toppers. LADY TOPPERS BENCH. F
