Hilltoppers are headed to the Bahamas Bowl for a rematch with Central Michigan

In some aspects, its still hard to believe that, after the season the Hilltoppers had on the football field, the possibility of a bowl game is still around. Through all the ups and downs – from the season opening win against Bowling Green to losing heartbreakers in the second half to UAB and FAU, just to name a few – the Tops ran through the back-half of their schedule, cultivating in one of the best games of the year in all of college football in a Black Friday win over Marshall.

All of this has put the Tops in position for a bowl game in their first year as a member of Conference USA and bowl eligible for the fourth consecutive season.

All the speculation, wondering and hoping can end. The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are heading to the Caribbean to play the Central Michigan Chippewas in the inaugural Popeyes Bahamas Bowl on Christmas Eve at 11 a.m. CT. If you remember, WKU faced CMU in the 2012 Little Ceaser’s Pizza Bowl.

The Tops lost by just three in their first ever FBS bowl appearance, and it was the first game the Tops played that year without Willie Taggert and the game before Bobby Petrino was hired. Good ol’ Lance Guidry took the helm for that game and nearly escaped with a win.

So, now we know! How do you feel about it? Do you like the matchup? Personally, I’m a little irked that it’s the same opponent, but I guess I can’t be too bummed that the Tops are officially in a bowl game.
