ProToppers: Quanterus Smith gets love from Predominately Orange

The Denver Broncos FanSided site, Predominately Orange, did a feature piece on former Hilltopper Quanterus Smith, who is playing in his first year in the NFL after suffering an ACL injury last year, the same in which he was drafted. You can read the piece in it’s entirety, here.

PO editor and author of the piece, Sayre Bedinger, notes that great things are just around the horizon for our favorite professional defensive end.

"And a breakthrough could come sooner rather than later. Smith jumped off the tape against the Jets this past Sunday, racking up three QB hurries. That’s what Ware was speaking to in terms of Smith being ‘closer’ to sacks, and those will come. He’s getting a good jump off the ball, and his ability to get to the QB is so natural and fluid, there’s no doubt in my mind his first NFL sack is on deck."

I should mention – he wrote this following the Broncos’ 31-17 win over the Jets last week.

The breakthrough Bedinger wrote about two weeks ago is still in progress, yes, but Smith did come closer to a huge breakthrough again on Sunday night, getting credit for a tackle for a loss, and grabbing the eyes of the national TV crew.

Smith is doing the things he needs to in order to become the next great pass rusher in waiting, following in the footsteps of Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware. Seem a bit too optimistic? Maybe, but at least Bedinger agrees with us.

"What Smith needs to do is get that first one, the hardest one, and he’ll be off and rolling. We all saw the game tape of him at Western Kentucky absolutely abusing offensive tackles. This guy is for real. When he gets his first sack, the rest of the NFL will know it too."
