Hilltoppers look to rebound at FAU

The Hilltoppers have boarded their chartered flight and taken off for Boca Raton Florida for an 11 am kickoff verses now-Conference USA opponent, former FunBelt pals, Florida Atlantic. For WKU ,they’re coming off their second by week of the season and are two weeks removed from yet another second half let down at home against UAB. For the Tops, everything seems to be going well offensively as they rank nationally as one of the best and most efficient offensive teams, however the red and white can’t seem to figure out what they are doing wrong when it comes to stopping the other team. With an important game coming against the Owls, lets take a look at what WKU is going to have to do to handle a potent 2-4 FAU attack.

On the offensive side of the ball WKU has to continue to do what they have been doing. Offensively, Western is mentioned in the top 10 in the nation, and so for them to continue in their pursuit of offense isn’t as necessary as their pursuit for a worthwhile game defensively. The defense has left little for the offense to work with. Defense has allowed multiple teams to score over 40 points. For WKU, today’s game will be key to move on in their season especially coming off their second bye of the season.

For FAU, this game is somewhat of a trap game for the Owls. FAU has dropped two games to begin the season to Nebraska, and Alabama allowing over 40 points in both of those games. However, they have righted their ship and beat a relatively good UTSA team. For Florida Atlantic, they have to keep Brandon Doughty in check, which will be a large task, however it won’t be as hard for them to keep him in check if their offense succeeds. Their offense has the ability to break big plays and win games especially against a rough WKU offense.

Overall this game is important for both teams. For the Tops its going to be vitally important if they still have hopes of making a bowl game. For the Owls it means a lot to them as they try and make a move to stay in contention in CUSA as well.
