ProToppers Primer: Doyle, Colts on prime time in week 2

Week two of the NFL season kicks off tonight, but our ProToppers don’t begin play until Sunday afternoon, and we even have one playing on Monday Night Football. Here are this weeks NFL ProTopper matchups

Jonathan Dowling – Oakland Raiders (vs. Houston Texans, Sunday @ 3:25 p.m.)
Dowling wasn’t credited with a tackle, and he and his secondary didn’t do much good in their opening game, allowing Geno Smith to throw over 220 yards against them. Hopefully the Texans will prove to be an easier task.

Jack Doyle – Indianapolis Colts (vs. Philadelphia Eagles, Monday @ 7:30 p.m.)
Doyle and his Colts will be back in the prime time slot, this time playing the Monday Night Football matchup with Philadelphia. Doyle didn’t record a catch, but did get to line up in front of fellow ProTopper Quanterus Smith on a Colt punt protect package. That had to have been the highlight of the night for both guys.

Bobby Rainey – Tampa Bay Buccaneers (vs. St. Louis Rams, Sunday @ 3:05 p.m.)
Rainey was the only ProTopper to record any statistics, and became the lead back once Doug Martin left the game with an injury in a loss to Carolina. But, the Bucs didn’t stick to the run game much, and Rainey carried the ball only four times for 12 yards, and had himself a costly fumble on the Bucs’ final drive. Martin missed practice yesterday, and if he’s unable to play against the Rams, we might see Rainey in there as a starter. And, while we hate it for Doug, how flipping awesome would that be?

Quanterus Smith – Denver Broncos (vs. Kansas City Chiefs, Sunday @ 3:20 p.m.)
Smith helped secure a win against the Colts last week, and was a part of a defensive line that held Indy to just 54 rushing yards a week ago. And, of course, his highlight was lining up across from Doyle on a Broncos punt rush.
