CUSA Football Scoreboard: Scores from 8/29/14
How do you know fall is almost here? The beginning of the college football season! A pair of Conference USA teams kicked off the football season last night, including our own Hilltoppers.
WKU 59 – Bowling Green State 31
What a fun, fun, fun ballgame. Brandon Doughty is no joke, the Tops don’t need no stinkin replacement for Antonio Andrews, this receiving corps is deep and the rest of CUSA better watch out. Jeff Brohm has a win under his belt as a college coach, and the Tops rewrote about half of the record books in an offensive show out, which totaled 702 yards. If you missed it, you can read our full coverage recap here.
UTSA 27 – Houston 7
Houston turned the ball over. A lot. Six times to be exact – two fumbles and four interceptions – and the Roadrunners took full advantage of it, and continued a tradition of winning season openers, something they’ve done every year since 2011. Tucker Carter threw for 121 yards on 15 completions (24 attempts) and David Glasco II rushed for two touchdowns as well as 81 yards on 25 touches. Houston didn’t score until 1:04 to play in the game, and haven’t been shutout since 2000.
Today will see the rest of CUSA begin their season: UAB will host Troy, Florida Atlantic will head to Nebraska, Marshall makes the trek to Miami of Ohio, Old Dominion hosts Hampton, Rice squares off against Notre Dame, Savannah State will try not to get mercy ruled against MTSU – same with Louisiana Tech and Oklahoma – FIU hosts Bethune-Cookman, Southern Miss looks for the early upset against Mississippi State, North Texas will attempt to hook the Horns and UTEP will travel to play New Mexico.
