CUSA Soccer Scoreboard: Scores from 8/26/14

The school year has begun, and while that’s good news for college athletics fans everywhere, it also means school takes “first priority,” which has always been a foreign concept to me, and means things start to slack. But, we WONT LET THAT HAPPEN…OFTEN here at Wave the Red Towel.

Since we didn’t bring you a scoreboard for Aug. 24th, let’s do a quick recap here: C-USA teams went 6-2-3, with three teams (North Texas, WKU and UTEP) posting shutouts, while MTSU and Old Dominion were shutout.

Alright, we all set? Awesome. Here are scores from last night, Tuesday, August 26th.

Southern Miss 8 – Mississippi Valley State 0
The Lady Golden Eagles were able to put up eight goals on MSVS and they didn’t even play the entire game, as it was suspended with nearly 12 and a half minutes remaining due to darkness. Southern Miss had seven different scorers and five of them came off the bench. USM’s defense kept Miss. Valley State to just five shots and only two of them were on goal. It was the first shutout of the season for goalie Brittany Taylor.

Louisiana Tech 8 – Louisiana College 0
I’m not sure if these kind of stats are kept by Conference USA, but I’d say it has been a while since the conference saw a day with two 8-0 victories, which happened last night after Louisiana Tech, who actually played all 90 minutes (is that more or less impressive than Southern Miss?) against Louisiana College and found the back of the net six times in the opening 45 minutes. Four Lady Techsters scored their first goal of their career, and the scoring started in the third minute for LA Tech. Louisiana College was outshot 28 to one…yes, only one shot…and redshirt freshman goalkeeper Faith Washington saw her career action and got her first win.

Only one game is in action tonight – New Mexico State travels UTEP – before a full slate of games Friday.
