Conference USA kicked off their 20th season of women’s soccer last night, with 13 games kicking off and getting seasons underway. We will try our best to bring you a fresh scoreboard the morning after all matches this year, and we are also considering expanding to all sports, so if you like what you see, let us know!

Southern Miss 1 vs. Nicholls State 2
Despite totaling 16 shots, seven of which were on goal, the Golden Eagles fell in their season and home opener by a goal to Nicholls State. Southern Miss. scored their only goal in the opening minutes of the game, when freshman Becky McMullan scored in the sixth minute. It took a while for Nicholls State to net the equalizer, doing so in the 38th minute, but less than two minutes later they took the lead, which ended up being all the scoring in the game. Brittany Taylor, USM’s sophomore goalie, played a complete game between the posts, and collected three saves.

FIU 0 vs. Arizona 2
FIU also opened at home and also found themselves on the short end to start the season, losing to the Wildcats by two goals. Scoring for Arizona were Alexandra Doller and Paige Crouch, but Panthers goalkeeper Nevena Stojakovic remained in the game for all 90 minutes, collecting three saves. The battle of the cats resulted in each team recording 10 shots.

Charlotte 1 @ UNC Greensboro 0
One of the short list of CUSA teams to open 2014 with a win were the Charlotte 49ers, who defeated in-state UNC Greensboro by a single goal, which came off the boot of freshman Martha Thomas in the 81st minute. The Charlotte victory gave the 9ers the edge in the all time series, for now, at 4-3.

Old Dominion 0 vs. Liberty 1
ODU also found themselves in a 1-0 match, but the Lady Monarchs (that’s an odd way to separate the men’s and women’s teams…) fell to Liberty to open their campaign. The lone goal of the game was scored from LU’s Crystal Elmers in the 63rd minute. A total of 624 fans were in attendance for ODU’s home opener, which was the most to watch a Lady Monarch’s game since September of 2010 when ODU brought NC State into town.

Marshall 0 @ #3 Virginia 3
The Thundering Herd traveld to the third-ranked Virginia Lady Cavaliers, and left on the down side of a 3-0 game, that saw Virginia out shoot Marshall by a 26-1 margin. I kid you not. The bright spot for the Herd? Redshirt junior goalie Lizzie Kish shaved a PK attempt by Morgan Brian, who is an active member of the U.S. Women’s National Team. So, that’s pretty cool.

Florida Atlantic 1 @ USF 0
Thanks to a Claire Emslie goal in the 13th minute of play, FAU began their season with a tally in the W column. FAU also put an end to an impressive home winning streak for the Bulls, in which they hadn’t lost a home match dating back to August 17th of 2012. (13 matches.) Sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Drinkwater, a USF transfer, shutout her former institution and made eight saves along the way.

UTSA 1 vs. Houston Baptist 0 F/2OT
It took 103 minutes, but Kaytee O’Brien put home the games only goal for the Roadrunners, and UTSA is 1-0 to begin their year. O’Brien also scored a pair of goals in UTSA’s exhibition victory last Sunday. The Roadrunners are now 3-1 all time against Houston Baptist, and are 3-6 in program history in openers. Roadrunner goalie Katherine Tesno recorded her first career shutout.

Louisiana Tech 2 @ Central Arkansas 2
Louisiana Tech had to play from behind twice in their season opener against Central Arkasnas, after Allie Coleman scored the first goal of the game for UCA in the sixth minute. Four minutes later, Lady Techster Kailee Hervey tied the game, but a 37th minute goal from Megan Thomas gave the Bears a 2-1 lead. Madison Doll scored the final equalizer in the 82nd minute, and that’s where the teams stood when time expired.

Rice 0 @ Baylor 1 F/OT
It took more than 90 minutes to settle this one, but when it was all said and done, a 97th minute goal off the foot of Baylor’s Bri Campos proved to be the difference. Rice was outshot 15-5, but the Owls had the edge in corner kicks 11-7.

UAB 2 @ South Alabama 1 F/2OT
Where do we send thank you drinks, and to who, UAB? The Blazers knocked off defending Sun Belt Conference tournament champion South Alabama by scoring with less than three seconds to play in regulation, thanks to Sarah Morris who put home the winning goal.

WKU 2 @ Lipscomb 0
Lauren Moats found the back of the net twice, and freshman goalkeeper Allison Leone recorded her first collegiate victory, as WKU opened their inaugural season in CUSA with a win.

UTEP 0 vs. Texas State 0 F/2OT
No one could score after 110 minutes, and Britney Curry was handed a yellow card in the tie. Both Bobcat goalie Caitlynn Rinehart and UTEP goalie Sarah Dilling recorded just two saves.
