WKU’s Inaugural C-USA Volleyball Schedule Released

The 2014-15 WKU Volleyball schedule is now known, and features not as many high-profile names as we have seen in past seasons. Travis Hudson and company will open with the UNLV Tournament, where they’ll face UNLV and Cal State Northridge before hosting their first home match of the year against Belmont. They ladies will participate in three more tournaments – the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational in Springfield, Missouri (also participating are Incarnate Word, Missouri State, Milwaukee and Oral Roberts), the Michigan State Tournament (featuring Michigan Sttae, LIU Brooklyn and Milwaukee again) and will host the Holiday Inn WKU Classic, bringing Purdue, Austin Peay and Western Michigan to Diddle. Conference USA play will begin for the Lady Toppers on the road against Louisiana Tech on September 26th. The ladies will face six teams that made the NCAA tournament last year, and we will see a matchup of defending conference champions in October, as WKU will face defending CUSA regular season and tournament champion Texas-San Antonio, who was the conferences’ lone representative in the national tournament on the road. Coming to Diddle for conference play will be Rice, Charlotte, Marshall, UTEP and all four former Sun Belt schools in North Texas, Florida International and Florida Atlantic, and, just like it should, the season will wrap up against MTSU on John Oldham Court. The Tops will look to capture a C-USA tournament crown in just their first season, which they’ll try to do so on Southern Miss’ floor in late November. If this volleyball season is anything like last year, it’ll be interesting to see where WKU fits, as CUSA had only three teams post more than 20 wins, and two of them have flown the coup. Hopefully, we will be able to talk to Coach Hudson before the season commences, but if last years’ records are any indication, it’s a very weak conference, which should bode well for WKU.
