Will: I think the Sun Belt will miss WKU dearly. For the Sun Belt, when I hear the conference name, I think of a few schools; ULM, ULL and WKU. WKU was the most consistent school for the Fun Belt. They never really wowed people away, but everyone kept an eye out for them. WKU’s rise to national prominence wasn’t only good for the school, it was good for the SBC. Everyone then wanted to see WKU. The Hilltoppers. Everyone found out what a “Hilltopper” was during their time in the Sun Belt. The Hilltoppers took on some SEC opponents on national TV. (And beat one. Twice.) Doing that brought TV revenue into a mid-major conference that dearly needs any money they can get. Western brought a little southern class to a trashy conference. WKU has what a lot of people call the best sports facilities in the SBC. The Tops have Diddle, and Smith Stadium, along with the Nick and the WKU soccer and softball complex, all that crammed into one gorgeous campus situated in south central Kentucky…what more could a conference ask for than that? WKU was a crown jewel of the Sun Belt. They brought attention to a conference not many know about. Now CUSA better bring all they got and be ready for a hungry WKU.
