Red Towel Roundtable: WKU Volleyball
Marcus: WKU Volleyball has been consistently good in the Sun Belt and is a frequent visitor to the NCAA tourney. However this year the astonishing upset baffled us all on the Hill asking how could our Lady Tops be finished to a team they shut out in the regular season?
To me, preseason predictions are just that, predictions. Yes WKU had a phenomenal regular season last year and did make a quick post season exit, but I think that that scenario won’t affect the squad this year. I expect the Hilltoppers to come out full force yet again for what should be another great season.
2014 will feature two seniors, three juniors, two sophomores and two freshman, so the team will definitely be experienced which I think will be a good indicator for the direction this season will go.
Ashley Potts will definitely be missed at the Labaro position as it will be hard to fill her shoes, however I think sophomore Georgia O’Connell will do great in the open position as Georgia has already proven herself as a starter. O’Connell started in all 33 matches last season as a freshman and played in 112 of the 113 sets. She also finished fifth on a very talented squad with 172 digs and second with 23 service aces.
The squad definitely lost talent this past season, but I expect a very good season with yet another talented and experienced Lady Topper team.
