The Champion City Kings are on top of the Prospect League standings after just their first eight games as a squad, going 5-3 through the opening week-plus of play, and helping lead the charge are former Hilltoppers Trevor Lowe, Leiff Clarkson and Ryan Thurston.

Entering play last night, Lowe, despite the second lowest batting average on the team at 0.95, had helped out offensively some, as he is tied for fifth on the team in RBI, and is only one of only four players who have played in all opening eight games. Also pitching in offensively is Leiff Clarkson, who is one of the guys tied with Lowe for RBI and is hitting .219 with a double, five walks and three stolen bases also through eight games.

On the pitching mound, Thurston leads the team in strikeouts with eight while boasting a 0.90 ERA and only two runs allowed in 10 innings worked so far. Thurston has been in the starting role for both of his appearances, and unfortunately has an 0-1 record, but it is still early and has only allowed one earned run.

The Kings had an off day today and will begin playing again tomorrow through Friday, next getting a day off on Saturday.
