WKU Hilltoppers Football adds Alabama to 2016 Slate

Fire up the grills and RV’s, as news broke early today that the WKU Hilltoppers football program has added the Alabama Crimson Tide to their 2016 schedule, becoming the third non-conference game officially scheduled for the year.

The Toppers will venture back to Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa on September 10th, as a new cast of guys will look to avenge 2012’s 35-0 shutout, that was much closer than that score would signify for three quarters (but, it was a 21-0 first quarter and fumbling issues that would doom Willie T. and company).

The addition of the Tide means that WKU will have played an SEC opponent in seven of eight FBS seasons, dating back in 2009. Western Kentucky athletic director Todd Stewart had this to say about the scheduling:

"“Obviously, playing Alabama is an opportunity to compete on the highest stage against a truly outstanding program…Our players enjoy the exposure that results from competing at the highest level…”"

The other non-conference games slated for 2016 will also come in September, as the Tops will travel to Oxford, Ohio to take on the Miami (OH) Redhawks on Sept. 17th, and then history will be made as Vanderbilt will be the first ever SEC team to come to the Hill for football on Sept. 24th.
