Hilltoppers Win Series, Play Texas State Wednesday

The WKU Hilltoppers wrote the final page of their Sun Belt Conference regular season history book, as they attempted to mount a 9th inning comeback against Georgia State, but ultimately fell short, and closed the 2014 regular season with a 5-4 loss, but a 2-1 series victory, and knocked the Panthers out of contention to play in the Sun Belt baseball tournament.

While the final and official Sun Belt bracket isn’t known, what is known is the Tops will go into Mobile as the fifth seed, and have themselves a date with the Texas State Bobcats in the 4/5 game on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 CST.

The Tops and Bobcats, if you’ll recall, met in Bowling Green in late March, with Texas State taking the final two games of the weekend series after WKU, behind nine strikeouts from Justin Hageman, won game one 4-1. The tournament, much like the softball tourney was, will be double-elimination with only 8 of the 10 SBC teams qualifying.

If WKU beats the ‘Cats, they’ll play the winner of the 1/8 matchup (most likely, the winner between Lafayette and ULM), however, if the Tops drop the first game, they’re win or go home in a matchup of the loser of the aforementioned matchup. But, more on that as we know for sure who will play who and when.
