Daouda Soumaoro Transferring from WKU

News broke yesterday that another basketball Hilltopper will take their talents else where; this time it was sophomore center Daouda Soumaoro. Soumaoro makes the third Hilltopper to ask and receive transfers from the WKU squad.

The 6-foot-9 center is transferring to the University of Mobile, which is a NAIA school in Mobile, Alabama. Soumaoro only spent one season on the Hill after transferring from Iowa Western Community College in his first year of eligibility. In his lone season at WKU, Soumaoro appeared in 9 games with 4 of those being starts. He added a total of 10 points and 12 rebounds while on the court for the Tops.

The loss of Soumaoro will definitely affect the size of the Tops, as now we will continue to rely on George Fant and Alex Rostov. Freshman Ben Lawson could also play a factor in depth as the games progress. Soumaoro began to show an impact towards the end of the season as he earned starts, and gave the Tops a much needed man down low with the loss of Rostov.

Other Hilltoppers leaving include freshman Payton Hulsey and Aaron Adeoye. Hulsey is headed to Eastern Florida State College after averaging 3.1 PPG and 2.7 RPG for the Tops; and Adeoye will move to Southern Illinois after putting up 3.6 PPG and 4.3 RPG in his lone season at WKU.

Losing Hulsey will be a minor loss to the Tops this season, as Chris Harrison-Docks controlled the point for majority of the season. Plus, with the addition of Ayinde Sprewell to the line-up; I really like the guards the Tops have in store for next season.

Adeoye will be missed when it comes to rebounding, as he always seemed to be the guy who kept quiet on the points category. However, he always managed to sneak in and snag a decent amount of boards.

These three guys will definitely be missed on the Hill, but I still think we have ourselves a solid Hilltopper squad for the upcoming campaign.
