The Hilltoppers returned to the diamond after an extended break today against Sun Belt Troy. WKU kicks off a weekend series with the trojans today winning by a score of 5 to 4. The Western will return to the diamond tomorrow and end their series Sunday. Lets recap Fridays showdown.

With WKU’s season up and down the baseball tops desperately needed a win they could build off of. With their game against Austin Peay set for a later date the Hilltoppers had time to relax and rehab and get ready for a SBC series. The Tops sent RHP Justin Hageman to the hill for his 6th outing of the season. Hageman went six inning striking out as many batters as he went innings. He worked himself into a jam in the bottom of the second thus ending his day. The Tops leading offensive producer was Philip Deidrick who sent two solo shots over the wall and going 3 for 4 at the plate. Western Kentucky will look to continue their hot bats Saturday.

For Troy their top producer was Garrett Pitts who had a two run single giving Troy their first two runs of the game. Later in the inning Pitts would come around to score closing the gap on the Hilltoppers lead. For Troy they will look to give it another shot tomorrow.

The Hilltoppers finally get production out of Philip Deidrick something they have been in Dire need of. Ryan Church stays constant with Ian Thompkins doing his work on the mound in relief. Tune into the Wave the Red Towel for tomorrows recap. Have a safe and pleasant Friday night and as always… GO TOPS!
