Pre Game 3: WKU vs. Texas State

Game three of the weekend series between WKU and Texas State at Nick Denes Field is about to get underway. This rubber mach will determine who takes the series as Western won friday night by a score of 4-1 but took one to the chin yesterday walking 12 batters and losing 13-4. The loss by the Hilltoppers was their fist loss at home in 8 games and snapped a streak that was running close to a team record.

On the mound for WKU today will be RHP Jake Thompson. Thompson has an era of 2.20 with 24 strike outs on the season. Anderson Miller is the leading average for the Hilltoppers hitting .308. Regan Flaherty is currently in the middle of a 12 game hit streak that is the longest in Tops history. Currently in a slump is Leiff Clarkson hitting a meager .222 on the year.

For the Texas State Bobcats they will send Lucas Humpal to the hill for game three. Humpal has an ERA of 3.34 sitting at 1-0 on the season with 33 K’s. Leading hitter for the Bobcats is 2 baseman Matt Smith. Smith is hitting .341 on the year with 15 hits and 5 RBI’s. The leading RBI hitter for TSU is shortstop Garrett Mattlage with 21 that is 8 more than any other player on the team.
