The Softball team is back at it again looking to shake off the double header loss against instate foe Louisville Wednesday at the WKU softball complex. This time around the Hilltoppers will face Sun Belt opponent Troy in a 3 game weekend series to open up SBC play. Today will boast a double header at 1 and 3 and that games will conclude Sunday with a single installment starting at noon. For WKU and Troy this will be the one of the last time the two teams meet as Western will exit the Sun Belt for Conference USA next year. Troy has an all time edge in the series over WKU 18-11, that being said however WKU won all three meeting last year.

Starting lineups have yet to be announced so we will review both teams top performers. In the pitching circle WKU pitcher Emily Rousseau was the bright spot in a dim Hilltopper bullpen last week. She allowed only 3 runs 2 earned in her first putting and came to put the bandage on a bleeding team in the second game against Louisville. Westerns best hitter is Olivia Watkins who is hitting .473 on the year including going 3-for-4 in the second game of wednesdays double header. For the Troy Trojans their best asset in the circle is Jayce Affeldt. Affeldt has an ERA of 2.34 and 98 K’s on the year. A pair of Trojans have hot irons that consist of Ebony Wright who is hitting a team high .361 and Michelle Phelps who is tied at 4 home runs with Amanda Winters but leads the team in RBI’s at 23.

As the sun sets on WKU’s time in the Fun Belt they still look to get back to back SBC titles and that hunt starts today.
