The Baseball Tops will start installment two of their three game series with Texas State this weekend today at Nick Denes Field at 1pm. The Hilltoppers and Trojans who before yesterday had only met once previously resulting in a 4-3 Hilltopper victory went 5 hitless innings before things opened up. Western took game won by a margin of 4-1 and moved the all time record to 2-0 against the Bobcats.

For WKU the player who had the best game friday evening was Anderson Miller. The sophomore opened things up in the fifth with an infield single and managed to round home twice thanks to hits from Scott Wilcox and Thomas Peter. First baseman Ryan Church is always the one to watch as he hits .287 on the season with 4 home runs and 14 RBI’s. Today Senior Southpaw Austin Clay will make his way to the mound to deliver the pitches. Clay is 3-0 in the season with a 2.57 ERA. One player for the tops who has almost been unnoticeable is DH Philip Deidrick. Deidrick like Regan Flaherty earlier in the year has a silent bat. In 4 trips to the plate last night he had 2 strike outs and 2 pop ups resulting in no on base outings. If Deidrick expects to  stay in the DH position, he’s going to need to step it up.

On the Bobcats side of the diamond not much worked for them yesterday as it took an error in the 9th for them to get a runner past 2nd base. The bright side for TSU was Cory Geisler as he was the only player to get to second base as he hit one to far left and reached on a double. Pitcher Austen Williams will get the nod saturday. Williams is 2-0 on the season with a 2.87 ERA. The biggest disappointment for TSU last night was Left Fielder Granger Studdard who is hitting .311 on the season and went 0-for-3 at the plate last night after hitting a walk off homer the game before, Expect Studdard to look to heat his bat up after his disappointing outing.

Game two will commence around 1pm today. Its a busy day on the hill as softball takes on Troy opening their SBC slate. Due to scheduling conflicts we will not be able to live tweet the game so visit WTRT for your recap. Enjoy your afternoon feel free to make a trip to the Nick and as always… GO TOPS!
