POST GAME: WKU 4 Texas State 1.

The Baseball Tops started their second Sun Belt series and the first game didn’t disappoint. The Hilltoppers and Texas State are in for a weekend series and the Hilltoppers are hot at Nick Denes Field as their previous two series there they swept facing UNC Asheville and Big 10 foe Illinois. Game on resulted in a WKU win 4-1.
Western Opened up the scoring as Anderson Miller hit a single in the game to open up the 5th. Following Miller, Thomas Peter was hit by bitch advancing Miller and moving Peter to 1st. Two batters later Scott Wilcox hit an RBI double and score Miller and Peter. In the 6th WKU catcher Ryan Messex reached on a single then Miller repeated and also reached on a single. Thomas Peter stepped up to the plate and roped an RBI double to the left field wall that fell just 2 feet short of being a 3 run homer. On the mound Justin Hageman went 9 full innings. Hageman had a shut out working into 2 outs remaining in the ninth until Matt Smith reached on an Error from Regan Flaherty. Smith rounded home after tagging up off a Garrett Mattlage sac fly to deep center. For TSU pitcher Taylor Black pitched 8 full innings as well allowing 4 runs off of 8 hits with an era of 3.54.
Tomorrows game will start at 1 pm at Nick Denes Field. For the Tops they move to 2-0 all time against Texas State. The Hilltoppers move on to 13-9 on the season 3-1 in the Fun Belt and 9-1 at the Nick. For the Bobcats they move to 13-8 and 3-1 as well in the SBC.
