Mar 21, 2014; San Antonio, TX, USA; Creighton Bluejays forward Doug McDermott (3) drives against Louisiana Lafayette Ragin Cajuns guard Elfrid Payton (2) in the first half of a men

The Tournament birth was short lived for the Ragin Cajuns…but man did they give the Creighton Bluejay faithful quite the scare!

It wasn’t until the waning minutes of the game did Doug McDermott and company finally pull away to seal the deal with a 10 point victory…moving them on to the Round of 32 to play number 6 seed Baylor.

The Blue Jays kept doing what they do best…especially McDermott as he cranked out another high performing game with 30 points and 12 rebounds. He was helped out by teammates Austin Chatman (16pts; 5 reb; 6 ast) and Ethan Wragge (12pts; 3 reb).

The lone Sun Belt squad did their best to move on to the next round…but that won’t come this year. The Ragin Cajuns were lead by NBA Prospect Elfrid Payton who had his own standout evening as he knocked down 24 points while also having 8 rebounds…3 assists…3 steals…and 2 blocks. He was helped out by his sophomore side-kick Shawn Long as he also end the season on a personal high note with 15 points…7 rebounds…and 2 blocks.

As a team ULL shot 38% from the floor…25% from behind the arc…and 70% from the charity stripe. The Ragin Cajuns kept things close on just about every stat line…just fell short in the end.

Louisiana-Lafayette showed the nation some potency of what the Sun Belt has to offer…and just about completed an upset which has been such a popular tournament trend the past 2 days! From us here at WTRT…we hope you enjoy the rest of your evening and the tournament!
