Postgame: Tops 7 – Georgia 26

The midweek woes continue, and in a big, BIG way.
Although, you’d think after the way the Tops swept the Illini this weekend, they’d be ready to play and have all the momentum in the world. And in any other circumstance, they would. But, they ran into a team who is on an eight game winning streak.
The Georgia Bulldogs (11-6) knocked the you-know-what out of WKU (10-6) tonight, winning by a score of 26-7, and increased their winning streak to nine, the Dawgs longest since 2009 when the squad started 14-0.
Bulldog Zack Bowers singlehandedly matched the Hilltopper’s offensive output, as he hit a grand slam and a three-run home run to do most of the damage, while three Dawgs – Hunter Cole, Conor Welton and Skyler Weber – all had four hits, with Weber adding four RBI to his night.
UGA starter Luke Crumley went only 2.1 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, but had a better night than the Tops’ starter Sam Higgs, who recorded just a single out before being pulled after giving up five runs on six hits and two walks. Higgs got the loss, his second of the year, while Jarrett Brown recorded his first ever collegiate decision with a win, following 2.2 innings of relief, giving up only three hits, striking out two, and allowing no runners to cross the plate.
While it was an awful night, just about all around, for the Tops, individual players had a solid showing. Ryan Messex had himself a 2-3 night, driving two men across the plate, while Anderson Miller also plated two teammates. Cody Wofford drove a man across in his return to the Peach State, while Trevor Lowe also had a single RBI.
Honestly, other than that, there’s not much to say. the 26-7 score says it all, and again, the Tops still can’t seem to find any success in the midweek, minus the Vandy win.
Hopefully the boys can regroup and salvage the two-game series tomorrow, and Brandon Allen will take the bump, who started last week’s Lipscomb blowout. Hopefully history won’t repeat itself.
Stand up and cheers.
