Texas State Bobcats (9-2 overall, 4-0 this week)
The Bobcats are looking very good very early. Following a midweek victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas State welcomed the Wagner Eagles into San Marcos and took all three games of the series. In the opener, the Bobcats didn’t score until the bottom of the 7th inning, thanks to an RBI-double from David Paiz, and took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the 8th, after the Eagles walked three batters and allowed a runner to reach on an error, and the Bobcats plated two to take the game 3-1. On Saturday, Taylor Black went 5 innings and sent 7 batters walking back to the dugout. The arguable player of the game was Cody Perkins, who managed to knock home two runs and start the evening off well for the Bobcats. Saturdays game number 2 showed much of the same success for Texas State, as they would bring 9 runners to cross the promise land. Starter Austen Williams pitched 5.2 innings allowing 6 runs on 8 hits, the first time he allowed a run all year. Player of the double header installment number 2 was Garrett Mattladge who hit an eight inning two out grand slam to put the Bobcats on top. A weekend that boasted adequate pitching and hot bats turned out to be a crazy weekend for second-place Texas State.
