Texas-Arlington Mavericks (3-7 overall, 2-2 this week)
The Mavericks are one of the many teams who knocked off a ranked opponent over the week, beating TCU by 8 runs to open play. The Mavs then came home to take on Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and lost 2 of 3 to the Islanders. The lone win came in the opening game of a Saturday double-header, which saw UTA’s bats come completely alive and explode for 11 runs, and leadoff hitter and center-fielder Derek Miller lead the charge, going 3-for-4 with four RBI. Jess Amedee threw 6.1 strong innings, allowing just 2 runs on 6 hits. The formula for Arlington is simple – score. In wins, the Mavericks are averaging 10 runs a game, but in losses, are averaging three runs per game. That’s not good, and in a game like baseball, the offense isn’t going to be able to show up with 10 runs very consistently.
