Troy Trojans (7-5 overall, 1-2 this week)
The Trojans took to the road and traveled to Hattiesburg Mississippi and took on Southern Miss. Tanner Hicks got the call on the mound Friday for Troy and went 7 full innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits and set 6 batters down on strikes. Saturday night, the Trojans saw pure success in every category. Troy starter Shane McCain went 7 innings strong striking out 6 and allowing only 4 runs. At one point in the game, McCain retired 10 Eagles batters while only allowing one hit through 4 and two through 5. Tyler Vaughn and Trevin Hall each had 3 hits in the middle game and managed to contribute to the 5 runs Troy managed to post. Sunday, Troy would drop a heart beater 7-6. Marc Skinner went eight innings, but managed to lose it in his final inning. Will Starling started the game for Troy but was pulled after 2 innings. For Troy they had 3 solid games but could only manage to win 1 of 3. Troys problem clearly isn’t in their bats, their problem is in late game pitching. They will face Samford and New Orleans this week as they look to get back on track.
