Texas-Arlington Mavericks (1-5 overall, 1-2 this week)
Well would you look at that, the bottom two teams in the Belt (for the time being) are right next to each other. Texas Arlington is the other current team in the conference with a losing record, and record their first win this week, a 9-8 win in 19 innings. To put it bluntly, UTA just isn’t that good…yet. They have bright spots on the squad – a .667 batting average from true-freshman Brady Cox in three games, and three pitchers who have combined for 10.2 innings pitched and zero earned runs allowed. However, couple those with things like this – six players (five of them starters) are hitting .250 or below, and six pitchers on the staff have an ERA over 5.00, and Zach Thompson is awful close to joining that group with a 4.66 mark. If the fellas get going offensively, and the pitching calms down throughout the season, the Mavs might, I repeat, might be something to worry about.
