The JEFF BROHM Era Begins!
Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports
It is official – today’s press conference signified the beginning of Hilltopper football under new head coach Jeff Brohm!
“Success happens when preparation meets opportunity,” noted Coach Brohm during one of his statements at today’s press conference. The overall theme was that of “optimism and passion,” as Jeff Brohm was formally introduced as Western Kentucky’s new Football Head Coach.
Brohm is no stranger to the girdiron, although WKU will be his first place where he is top dog. His long resume of playing and coaching, at this moment, bookends in the Bluegrass, as Brohm was a standout Quarterback at Trinity High School in Louisville, and stayed to quarterback the Louisville Cardinals. After playing for the Cards, he played for a multitude of NFL teams including San Diego, Washington, San Francisco, Tampa Bay, Denver, and ending his NFL career in Cleveland. The Browns may have been his final NFL stop, but he wasn’t quite ready to hang up the helmet, and would suit up for one more year playing in the XFL for the Orlando Rage. He then called it quits for playing on the field, however he wouldn’t leave the field entirely as he wanted to pursue coaching.
Brohm began his coaching career in 2002 for the now defunct af2 (arena football) team, Louisville Fire. He then moved down to the collegiate level, holding various positions on his collegiate alma mater from 2003 through 2008. Once he left the Cards, he would be quarterback coach at Florida Atlantic, Illinois, and doubled as QB coach and offensive coordinator at UAB. Then came his move to the Hill with Bobby Petrino after the 2012 season came to a conclusion.
Brohm’s contract includes an annual base salary of $600,000 through 2017, with yearly options available through 2019.
From the collection of statements Brohm gave in the press conference I can see that he is a very optimistic man, and will be a tremendous leader for Hilltopper Football going forward. Im pleased to see all of the excitement surrounding the Football program and i think it will only continue to grow. Us here at Wave The Red Towel wish Coach Brohm good luck as he prepares for next season and can’t wait to see where he takes Western Kentucky Football! So for now Hilltopper fans, Stand Up and Cheer!
