POSTGAME: Lady Tops 80 – Lady Panthers 59
Connor Choate – College Heights Herald
Man, what a slow news day.
It isn’t like Bobby Petrino left the Hill to go to Louisville (again) or anything. That would be absolutely absurd.
However, what DID happen was a complete thrashing inside Diddle Arena, in which Chastity Gooch had 18 points and six boards in an 80-59 win over Georgia State. The Lady Tops (10-4, 2-1) had 5 players in total, including Gooch, to hit double digits in scoring (Micah Jones with 14, Kendall Noble with 13, Bianca McGee with 13, and Bria Gaines added 10 from the bench).
While it was a sizeable lead all game, what truly separated the Lady Tops from Georgia State (5-10, 1-2) was second half shooting. WKU opened the final 20 minutes hitting 13 of their first 14 shots, including a perfect 3-3 from 3, to finally separate themselves.
Along with great shooting (WKU shot 50% from the floor for the whole game), the Lady Tops were helped tremendously by causing turnovers, forcing Georgia State to commit a season high 28 of them.
If there’s any silver-lining for you Panthers fans – it’s that they outrebounded WKU 44-30, and ended the game with 18 offensive boards. But that’s basically it.
Even all-world free throw shooter Kendra Long missed a free throw, ending her streak at 20 straight made attempts.
Georgia State came into the game middle of the pack or worse in every statistical team category, and the Lady Tops exposed them today. It was a great win, and strong performances from everyone certainly helped, especially with Alexis Govan out.

Stand up and cheer, Tops fans. It’s great to be a fan of the Lady Toppers right now!
