Wow, I could not have been more wrong in my preview post.

Not only did I completely botch the starting lineup, in which I predicted Snipes to start, but I thought the Tops would have an easy time against a seemingly inferior opponent. Well, I was way, way wrong.

WKU continued their winless-while-away-from-Diddle streak by falling to a now 3-4 Bowling Green State team 74-62. Things started off well, as Ben Lawson put up four of the first 9 points of the game, all from WKU’s side of things…and then the team…uhm, I’m actually not quite sure what happened.

This game is reminiscent of football season, when ESPN comes to town for a mid-week game and everyone, especially the team, should be excited and ready to go…and then completely lay an egg. The Tops got off to a 9-0 start, and then hit 14 before going scoreless for six minutes in the first half. WKU was able to come back and tie it, and even take a couple of leads, throughout the game, but the Falcons never let up and kept pushing, handing the Tops their 2nd loss in 3 games.

Was it all bad? Well, looking at the half by half breakdown, WKU was only down by 2 at the half, and outscored by 10 in the second, so there is somesort of silver lining? Maybe?

No? Okay, well the Tops did have 3 score in double-figures: T.J. led the way with 24, and Fant and Big Ben with 11. That’s something right? Oh yeah. Ben with his first double digit scoring performance of his career!

Other than that, it was pretty bad. Tops only shot 34 percent from the floor, 44 percent from the charity stripe, and 30 percent from beyond the arc. Ugly, ugly night.

I want to say things will still be okay, like I did after the Wichita State game, but with each mid-major road loss, I become less and less sure of that.

The only thing I can say, is that WKU will take a barely .500 record on the road again for their next game on Saturday, and are less than 2 weeks away from playing Louisville. It might get real ugly real fast.

But, if the way the back half of the season has gone each of the past two years is any indication, there truly isn’t anything to be worried about.

It’s still early. It’s non-conference. It’s alright. Stand up and cheers.
