Lookie here! I have just enough time to write a short preview before tip off of the 2nd bluegrass battle the Lady Tops find themselves in.

Tonight, WKU welcomes in the national champion runners-up Louisville Cardinals into Diddle Arena, and it’s the first time WKU will host a top-5 ranked opponent since 2001.

The Cardinals, currently ranked 4th in the country, come in with a perfect record so far, and have beaten 2 top 25 teams this year; #14 LSU and #11 Oklahoma, as well as beating FSU in overtime. Senior guard Shoni Schimmel leads all ULL ladies in scoring, averaging 13.0 points per game. The Cards have four other players who average in double figures, so look for those five to be the starting 5. (Schimmel, Asia Taylor, Antonita Slaughter, Sara Hammond and Tia Gibs.)

As always, the duo of Alexis Govan and Chastity Gooch will be of the utmost importance tonight. Govan leads the team in scoring, averaging – get this – 20.1 points per game, while Gooch leads the Lady Tops in rebounding with 11.3 per contest. Bianca McGee and Jalynn McClain will be important pieces again, as they seem to alternate the roll of unexpected spark for the team.

Michelle Clark-Heard came to the Hill via Louisville, as she was an assistant coach for the Cardinals for 5 seasons, coaching players such as Atlanta Dream member and gold medal winner Angel McCoughtry.

If you’re not in the BG area, as I assume most of you aren’t as you’ll be home for the holiday, the game will be streamed live via espn3.com. And, with any luck, we will have something special here on the site during the game, so keep checking here and the twitter page for more details on that.

Stand up and cheers.
