WKU Weekly Wrap-up: 10/20-10/26

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports
We’re baaaaaack! Actually, we didn’t really go anywhere. Homecoming always proves to be a busy weekend, so the weekend usual’s were non-existent this past weekend. But fret not, we are still here! And ready to recap what was, overall, a good week for WKU.
Soccer: WKU 1 – UALR 0, WKU 0 – Georgia State 1
The Lady Tops only scored once this week (thanks, Iris Dunn!) but it didn’t matter, with WKU claiming their first SBC regular season title since 2007, despite dropping the Tops final SBC match ever to the Crimson Panthers on Friday.
Volleyball: WKU 3 – ULM 0
It’s odd for most sports in college (except for basketball & baseball) to play a conference opponent twice, but that’s exactly what happened Friday night when the volleyball Tops traveled to Monroe for the second meeting of the season between the two squads. Last time out, ULM snapped WKU’s SBC set streak, but this time, the Tops lead from start to finished and swept the Warhawks. The team totaled 54 digs on the evening, and Ashley Potts lead the charge with 21, nearly out-digging the entire Warhawks team. Melanie Stutsman handed out 37 assists, and Janee’ Diggins, Noelle Langenkamp and Haley Bodway each killed 8 balls.
Football: WKU 26 – Troy 32
Well well well. What a year it could have been. For the second straight week, WKU comes out fast, has a lead at halftime, and then…squander the lead, and eventually the game. The good – Brandon Doughty didn’t throw an interception! The bad – he was sacked 3 times (for a total loss of 41 yards), fumbled twice, and didn’t even start the game. A.A. was a bright spot, as always, rushing for 100+ yards for the 7th consecutive game, but it would prove to not be enough. While WKU won every statistical category at the end of the game (again), the game can be summed up by A.D. Todd Stewart – “We kicked field goals, they scored touchdowns.” That they did, Todd. That. They. Did. (P.S. – Trojan QB Corey Robinson became the Sun Belt’s all-time leader in TD passes in the 3rd quarter. Congrats to him.)
Swim/Dive (Mens/Womens): WKU 145/139 – Northwestern 151/161
The WKU swim & dive team hosted their first home competition of the year falling to the Northwestern Wildcats, but it wasn’t all bad. The Tops (and Lady Tops) kept it close, and the women even held a lead over NW up until the final two events.
It was a slow week but busy weekend here on the hill, and things are just starting to heat up.
Stan up and cheers.
