2014 WKU Baseball Schedule Released

Earlier today, the 2014 Western Kentucky baseball schedule was released, and it boasts some big names.

The Toppers, led for the 3rd season by head coach Matt Myers, will play 28 home games, all at Nick Denes Field, and missing the near annual matchups with Kentucky and Louisville in Bowling Green Ballpark. The home schedule is down two games this year from 30 last year (although, losing the UK and UofL games at Bowling Green Ballpark equal out), and are highlighted by a series with the Illinois Fighting Illini in early March. The Tops will play a total of 18 games against NCAA Regional teams from a year ago, including Vanderbilt, Louisville and the Illini.

WKU will have a home-and-home with Louisville as well as travel to Lexington to play the Wildcats, where the Tops knocked off a Top 5 UK team in Lexvegas last season.

Conference play will begin for the Hilltoppers with a trip to Atlanta (following a 2-game stint in Athens vs. the Bulldogs) to face SBC newcomers Georgia State on March 14th. The Nick will begin hosting Sun Belt contests on March 21st, when the other SBC newcomer Texas St. comes to town. The rest of the home SBC schedule includes Arkansas St. (April 4-6), South Alabama (April 18-20), Arkansas Little Rock (April 25-27) and wraps up when Georgia St. visits BG on May 15-17. Following the regular season (and assuming they qualify), the Tops will travel to Mobile, Alabama for the (final) Sun Belt Tournament.

Will the Tops advance further than that? Hopefully. It’ll be a fun season and schedule to watch for sure. Although, yes, it is months away from begining.

What matchup are you looking forward to the most?

Stand up and cheers.
