Welcome to Wave The Red Towel

Western Kentucky athletics has been one of the nation’s premiere mid-major athletic programs for years. With the Hilltoppers making the next step into Conference USA following this season, it is fitting that the coverage the school gets grows with it as well. And with that, I welcome you to Wave The Red Towel, one of the newest additions here to the FanSided community! We have a lot in store, and as the site grows (with, of course, the Tops), even more will come along. We will cover football and basketball, of course. But, the great thing about the WKU community, is that the Hilltoppers excel in much more. We will also bring you coverage of Michelle Clark-Heard’s women’s basketball squad, who had a Sun Belt record setting turnaround last year. We will cover Travis Hudson’s volleyball squad, who have dropped only one conference set in the past season and a half. We will cover Jason Niedell’s soccer team, who was predicted to win the SBC for the first time in program history. We will bring you coverage of Amy Tudor’s first year at the helm of the Lady Toppers softball team, who are coming off their first ever conference title. We will bring you Matt Myers’ baseball Toppers, as they try to finish their Sun Belt stint with a bang, and much, much more.
We also bring with us an excellent and knowledgeable writing staff, who will bring insight, analysis and opinion.
And of course, we bring with us a passionate fan base, who has suffered through things like losing to Indiana St. in football, and the Ken McDonald era of basketball. But, the fan base has also seen such triumphs as back-to-back SBC basketball championships under Ray Harper, back-to-back victories against “big brother,” UK in football, beating arch-nemesis MTSU out for a bowl game last year, and countless other achievements.
To help our WTRT community grow, please feel free to share our posts, comment and engange in discussions, and follow us on twitter (@WaveTheRedTowel) and like us on Facebook at Wave The Red Towel. We cannot wait to bring you Tops coverage, and it will all start tomorrow with an SBC showdown, and nationally televised game, with the Warhawks of ULM.
So sit back, wave your red towel, and stand up and cheer.
